Over the course of a lifetime, you will spend over 90,000 hours at your job. Your workplace is a very big part of your life so it is important to find a job that makes you feel happy and successful. It may not be possible for you to find the perfect job right off of the bat, but with perseverance and planning, you can be on the path to finding the job of your dreams. The following article will give you five tips that will help you to find your dream job.

#1 Do Your Research

If you want to find your dream job, you cannot just leave things up to chance. You have to work hard and research in order to find out what type of job that you really want to do. This means, you have to investigate the career, your future pay, the potential atmosphere, the risk & benefits, and the skills or training needed to work in the field. You may have a career in mind, but after you do some research, you may find that the job is not as ideal as you may have thought. Once you have an overview of what your life would look like at your dream job, then you can get to the work of attaining it. Do your best to make sure it is the best fit for you!

#2 Build a Career Specific Resume

Your potential employer wants to know how you are going to give value to them. You have to be able to stand out from the competition by showing your future employer that you have the skills, education and experience that they are looking for. Ideally, your resume should focus on your past experience that has to do with the position that you are seeking. Feel free to include information that has to do with volunteering, travel or language; just make sure that the experience is relevant to the position that you are seeking. If you have never created a resume or just want some guidance, there are available resources online to help you create executive resumes or thank you letters for your future employers.

#3 Create a Tailored Cover letter

If you are looking for a specific job, you have to have a tailored cover letter as well. This cover letter should be directed to the job that you are looking for only. If you have a general cover letter that you send out with all of your resumes, you are going to have to make a change. Your dream job deserves its own cover letter.

#4 Get to Networking

If you do not have a LinkedIn account, then it is time to get one! It is crucial to network in order to get the job that you want. Your online presence is of high value. You want to make sure that your profile has your full name and all of your qualifications. By doing this, you will be able to be found by your future employer. The great thing about having an online presence is that potential employers will look at different online profiles in order to find potential employees. It is possible that you won’t even have to look for your dream job; your dream job could be looking for you.

#5 Follow Up Every Week

Once you have applied for your dream job, it is smart to let your future employer know how interested you are. You can do this by periodically calling back for updates and to let them know that you are still very interested and would love to work for their company. There may be other highly qualified job-seekers applying for the same position, so you want to set yourself apart from them. By following up, you show your true interest, and you are also able to get the answers that you need when it comes to your job search.

Never Stop Following Your Dreams

Typically a person's lifespan is about 692,040 hours. Out of those hours, 90,000 will be given to your job. Make those hours count! We all want to live lives that are fulfilling and meaningful. We want to share time with people who we respect, and we want to do work that makes a difference. It is worth all of the time and effort in the world to find the job of your dreams and work to attain it. Only then will you be working with intention and purpose.
